Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog!
Today is Skincare Sunday (the first of many!) These posts were so popular last year, so I thought I would continue to write them – I have some really exciting skincare content planned for 2022!
The festive season feels like a lifetime ago, but the affects it has had on our skin will last a little longer. Does anyone else feel like the chocolate, cheese and alcohol have damaged their skin? The central heating and cold winter days will also impact our skin, which can make it feel dehydrated.
The skin’s moisture barrier is responsible for locking in moisture and keeping your skin hydrated and healthy. If it gets damaged it can cause hydration issues. So if you feel like your skin is dull, dry and tight, don’t worry; I’m going to share 5 easy ways to keep your skin hydrated!
1 // Drink plenty of water
This is probably the most important step to help hydrate your skin. If your body is hydrated, your skin will benefit from this as water helps your digestive system flush out toxins from the body. This then keeps your body hydrated and refreshed which maintains your skin’s elasticity. It is recommended for you to drink at least 8 glasses of a water everyday (or more!) – could this be your 2022 mission?
2 // Use hydrating face masks
If you need that instant burst of hydration and moisture, face masks will be your new best friend; they are packed with hydrating ingredients! If you can incorporate a hydrating face mask into your daily/weekly routine, this will help keep your skin plump, hydrated and moist. (Try and avoid clay masks if your skin is dehydrated because they dry out your skin!!)
3 // Remember to exfoliate
Exfoliating is important because it removes dead skin cells on the outermost surface of the skin. It will boost your skin renewal process and reduce the bad effects of sun rays, dead cells and dirt on your skin. Ultimately, this makes it easier for moisturising products to penetrate more deeply into the skin which makes them more effective; which is what we all want, right? However, remember to only exfoliate a 2-3 times a week, you don’t want to over-do it.
4 // Use hydrating skincare products
Okay, this may be obvious, but not all ingredients will agree with your skin, so it’s important to use the ones to target what you require – so in this case, we need ingredients that are hydrating. Look out for products that include the following: Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerin, Ceramides and Squalene.
5 // Skip the really hot showers
You probably don’t want to hear this and I’m really sorry to break it you, but the hot showers are not good for your skin. Don’t get me wrong, a steamy shower feels incredible, especially when it’s freezing outside and you need warming up. But long, hot showers can actually damage your skin as it will strip your skin of moisture, leaving you feeling dry.
To keep your skin well hydrated, healthy and young you will need to nourish your skin daily to ensure hydrating and moisturisation levels are kept high. Remember that hydrating your skin from the inside out is the key to keep your skin hydrated!
*If you do suffer with dehydrated skin and it isn’t improving, please seek advice from a dermatologist/GP.
Have a lovely day everyone!
