6 Steps To Increase Self-Esteem…

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog!

It’s finally Friday and we’re going to talk about how to increase our self-esteem! Your sense of self-worth will control how you feel everyday and it can really impact your life, however the good news is, you can take control and really increase your level of self-worth. The level of self-esteem can vary depending on a number of factors such as how you feel about yourself and you’re your abilities, so the level can be high, low or somewhere in-between.

Tips for improving your self-esteem

1 // Use positive affirmations on a daily basis

Don’t be your own worst enemy – listen to your inner voice, recognise how you speak to yourself and be more positive! Confront any negative chat that comes into your mind and practice positive affirmations. At first, it may feel awkward, but self-praise will really help if you struggle with low self-esteem. This links into the next point because we need to eliminate self-criticism and talk more positively about ourselves instead!

2 // Eliminate self-criticism

We tend to be much more compassionate to our loved ones than we are to ourselves so this is where why we need to eliminate self-criticism. When our self-esteem is at an all time low, this is where we damage it further by being self-critical. We need to learn to build ourselves up rather than tear ourselves down. Before you talk negatively about how you look or how you feel, ask yourself whether you would say that to a friend; chances are, you wouldn’t!

3 // Acknowledge everything you are good at

If you tell anyone you’re not good at anything, you’re lying! Everyone is good at something, no matter how big or small it is. There is nothing wrong with saying, “Actually, I am good at that” – if you feel like there is something you are good at, make sure you own it! Acknowledge what you are good at it and be proud of yourself.

4 // Celebrate the small wins (as well as the big wins!)

Does anyone else feel like they are failing because of the unrealistic lifestyles on social media? This can have a huge impact on our self-esteem so its important to focus on your life and enjoy what you have. If you celebrate your wins, big or small, you’ll feel much happier because you’re making progress. Not only this, it gives you motivation carry on and builds up your confidence; this will have such a positive impact on your self-esteem!

5 // Accept compliments

I think it’s fair to say that we reject compliments more than we accept them, even when we say ‘oh, you’re far too kind, thankyou’ – that is classed as rejecting it rather than accepting the compliment. The simplest acknowledgement will start to work on your self-esteem, something as simple as a ‘thankyou’ will be enough!

6 // Do what makes you happy

This is a really important point; always find time to do what makes you happy! If you spend time doing the things you enjoy, you’re more likely to think positively. Try to schedule in a little you-time every day to ensure you are allowing yourself time to focus on yourself and do more of what makes you happy.

Have a great bank holiday weekend everyone and keep a look out for the next skincare post!
