Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog!
This is actually a repost from 2021 but it’s such an important topic. So, I wanted to talk all about Mindfulness and discuss 3 ways in which it can help you.
Let’s go back to the basics and figure out what Mindfulness actually is because there isn’t actually a definitive explanation. The way I see Mindfulness is that it’s about knowing directly what is going on inside and outside of ourselves and our lives. Its all about our awareness of our thoughts, feelings, emotions and behaviours so that we can allow ourselves to live in the present moment. There are several Mindfulness techniques such as Yoga or meditation which concentrates on awareness of oneself.
I’m sure there are many ways Mindfulness can help us all, but I would like to share my 3 ideas with you all…
1 // Reduces Stress
Mindfulness can lead to less intense levels of stress because it activates the body’s internal calming response which basically helps stop to any stress building up. It’s not going to stop your stress completely BUT, it can help to reduce it to a level you can manage it. This obviously has many health benefits because the less stressed we are, the lower our blood pressure – hooray
2 // Look at the bigger picture
I don’t know about you, but I find myself thinking about the future, fantasising about what I can achieve or even thinking I should’ve done this or should’ve done that…. Well Mindfulness is all about bringing the present moment into our awareness and the only way we can truly influence our dreams, goals and next opportunity is by doing something different NOW, in this moment.
3 // Improves your focus & attention
This one might seem obvious but actually, it isn’t. Everyone assumes Mindfulness will instantly calm everything down and help you focus but I know that one days when my head is so busy, it’s incredibly hard to slow down, stop for a minute and focus. By practicing mindfulness you can improve your mental focus, increase your concentration levels which will make sure you pay attention to certain aspects.
I’m not saying Mindfulness is the answer to all our troubles, because it isn’t; however, practicing Mindfulness can help you with all of the 3 points discussed above as well as many more which I think is a win in. It can help us to relate to our problems differently and view them from another perspective and physiological changes can take place as a result such as changes in the brain and immune system. Simple breathing exercises, yoga, meditation or even just a walk – these are all ways to improve Mindfulness and it’s about what works best for you!!
Please feel free to comment below with any advice or tips – it’s always great to hear from you!
